Pieces of Me by Rachel Aquino
Novel Rating 4/5 ⭐️
Pieces of me is a compilation of poems illustrated from passion, loss, heartbreak, love, wrath, and healing that the reader can unify with. A piece for the broken, for those who feel deeply, and for those who might be going through the pain of loss. May you find beauty in your sorrows through my poetry, and know you are not alone.
This novel was self-published and it really contained pieces of the author. Rachel Aquino incorporated letters written to her by whom I assume was a lover of hers and it really puts all the emotions into motion. That being said, you can clearly see that they are no longer when Rachel is writing pieces from her. It’s heartbreaking. Rachel is a very strong writer who’s passion bleeds on every page written, it astounds me!
I really enjoyed this collection of poetry, but at times it confused me because some excerpts leaked onto secondary pages where other poems resided. But as far as self-published authors go, we all have room to grow. I am excited to see what Rachel puts out in the future!
So I have had personal contact with Rachel, whom I’ve asked to doodle onto excerpts from my second poetry novel. I figured I would ask some questions regarding her work! Here is her little author interview;
1) What inspires you?
-The simple beauties I find in life. I like to appreciate the little things that others don’t take the time to appreciate. People I see that have a strong passion for what they do also inspire me and I strongly look up to those kind of people
2) When did you first realize writing was an outlet for you?
-After my relationship ended with my first love. Writing was how I coped with heartbreak
3) If you could change something in your life, what would it be?
-I wouldn’t want to truly change anything in my life. Although I’ve made mistakes and have regretful moments, I’ve learned that everything that has happened lead up to the person I am today and life I have now. Everything happens for a reason, and that’s life.
4) What goals drive you?
-Creating something beautiful with what life gives me and inspiring others is my goal
5) If there was a fictional character who most represented you, who would it be?
-Pandora from skins :~) I’m a dork
6) Your favorite quote ever?
-I actually have two, which are both from my favorite novel Warm bodies,
“It frustrates and fascinates me that we’ll never know for sure, that despite the best efforts of historians and scientists and poets, there are some things we’ll just never know. What the first song sounded like. How it felt to see the first photograph. Who kissed the first kiss, and if it was any good.”
“In my mind I am eloquent; I can climb intricate scaffolds of words to reach the highest cathedral ceilings and paint my thoughts. But when I open my mouth, everything collapses”
7) What is your favorite excerpt from your own novel? What story does it hold behind it?
– “The little things” it’s how I see him through my eyes. Conveying the unfathomable beauty I saw in him, and my extravagant first love
8) Any current projects taking place?
-I’m currently working on book #2
