Bare Roots by Molly S. Hillery
Novel Rating 4/5 ⭐️
Bare Roots is a collection of poetry written for anyone that has ever buried parts of themselves away from the world. The book is divided into six parts– Pruning the Damage, Battling the Weeds, The Roses [and the Thorns], The Seedling Shall Blossom, Cultivating Wisdom, and Buds of Hope are delicately crafted segments that touch on the subjects of femininity, love and loss, trauma, mental illness, the search for meaning, and ultimately, how to grow from it all. Some portions of this book contain mature content and may be triggering.
*This novel was given to me in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are indeed my own.*
All I have to say is, powerful. I am in serious awe of the emotions that were packed into this collection of real raw poetry. I related to a good chunk of it. Molly really spoke the truth, she gave her readers words that they can voice forever, and that is so beyond powerful to me. It was such a pleasure to read this moving work. I say this all the time, but I’ll keep saying it because it’s honest; writers words need to be heard and not just for their sake but because there are people out in the world struggling with similar things and we all need to feel like we aren’t alone. That there is someone else out there who is trying to heal. We are all human, we all feel things, and I feel like the population forgets this.
Also the page art was absolutely ADORABLE! Molly wrote her whole heart out and left room for positivity and growth towards the end. It really is uplifting when you get to a positive state in the read.
I recommend reading this if you’ve gone through depression and any kind of abuse, maybe this can really help you. I recommend it but please if you feel easily triggered, this may not be the perfect read for you. I care about the safety of my readers so please take caution.
