OTHERWORLD by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller
Novel Rating 4/5 ⭐
The company says Otherworld is amazing—like nothing you’ve ever seen before. They say it’s addictive—that you’ll want to stay forever. They promise Otherworld will make all your dreams come true.
Simon thought Otherworld was a game. Turns out he knew nothing. Otherworld is the next phase of reality. It’s everything you’ve ever wanted.
And it’s about to change humanity forever.
Welcome to the Otherworld. No one could have seen it coming.
Let me start off this post by saying that I was so close to not finishing this book, it took up until page 100 to get really interesting but after that, I was extremely happy I didn’t stop reading it. I had no idea that Segel wrote books, he definitely has a talent. Upon reading an article about his and Miller’s creative way to co-writing, you can totally see how their styles both mix into a perfect blend, they really are a match made in heaven.
I have no idea what it is about books that include virtual reality or any video game in general but I absolutely love the concepts, each one is so unique with a touch of original ideas. I will say that I haven’t experienced anything like OTHERWORLD before.
The reasoning I took off a star was mostly for the slow build, but also because our main character had a scene where he slut-shamed two girls for bad mouthing the love of his life. I didn’t really think that whole part was really needed, in all honesty, that part could very well be taken out and you wouldn’t miss anything plot-wise. Completely not needed.
The imagery packed into this novel was incredible! My head played each scene like a full movie scene and it was all just so amazing, there isn’t any other word for it but amazing. The whole plot and concept were just extremely well thought out, written, and executed. I am completely blown away by this book and just so happy that I stumbled upon it while browsing at Barnes.
In my opinion, the two strongest characters would be Carole and Gorog. My heart was all for them, they were well written and they just became two characters that you really rooted for throughout the storyline. Kat and Simon were good characters too and even though they both had some problematic characteristic’s they were still written well and executed just right. But my heart was more with Carole and Gorog, I don’t know what it is about them but they are such strong characters.
I am totally anxious for book two: OTHEREARTH fall 2018!
