The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White

Elizabeth Lavenza hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her “caregiver,” and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets . . . until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything–except a friend.

Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable–and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon she and Victor are inseparable.

But her new life comes at a price. As the years pass, Elizabeth’s survival depends on managing Victor’s dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive no matter the cost . . . as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.

*I found this ARC in a thrift store. This review is STILL honest and indeed my own opinion.*

In the beginning, I had a strong feeling that my rating would not go over 3 stars, but I was sorely wrong.

The reason being is that in the beginning, it’s a very slow burn. Not much action happens, we are mostly given information on our main characters life and how she came to be where she is currently. Things very much picked up in the third part of the book and that’s when things got good! I’m actually very happy I continued reading because I was having doubts about the book at first but now I can really say that this is one of my very well liked retellings!

Secondly, the emotional aspect coming from our main character lacked a bit. I wasn’t truly convinced of her emotions but then again, maybe that was intended because she does wear a ‘mask’ when it comes to her emotions. It still fell short until at least the second half when more tragic things begin to happen.

I did also feel like it was easy for me to predict some parts of the book, though there are a few things that really did surprise me in this story! I just wish it had more of a whiplash feel when it came to surprise points.

The star of this book is, Justine Moritz. There I said it, it’s the honest truth. She is pure and full of light and truly the best character in this dark world. I instantly fell in love with her character because she was absolutely loveable from the very start of this whole endeavor.

The writing was fantastic! This was my first

This book is very graphic so my sensitive readers please be very aware of what you’re going into here so you can stay safe:

Trigger and content warnings for child abuse and abuse in general, medical experimentation, murder, death, heavy dictions of surgical practices especially different cutting and sewing procedures, animal abuse, animal cruelty, animal death, and talk of suicide.

Buy your copy when it releases on September 25th, 2018!
